New Jersey is suddenly a spirited state.
Four spirits made or imported by Garden State-based companies made Wine Enthusiast’s list of the top 50 spirits of 2014.
Devotion Vodka’s Wild Cherry vodka was described as “remarkable” by the influential magazine/web site, which went on to praise its “succulent aroma, like black cherries in syrup from a can, ready for cherry pie.”
Carlstadt-based Caffo Beverages landed two spirits on the list — Caffo Solara and Dominique Brandy Italiano Riserva.
Wine Enthusiast described Caffo Solara, an orange liqueur, as “rich and authentic, with orange peel and blossom aromas and flavors as well as a long, vanilla-forward finish.”
And it described the brandy as “burnished gold in color . . . aged for more than three years, hints at golden raisins drizzled with honey, dried apricots and figs, and ripe pears.”
Brinley Gold Shipwreck Rum, also on the top 50 list, is imported by Market Street Spirits, a division of Glen Rock-based Opici Wines. Wine Enthusiast made note of the rum’s “mild, oaky aroma, a rounded, robust vanilla-bean flavor touched with coffee and a cinnamon zing.”
Drew Adelman, Devotion Vodka’s CEO, was ecstatic about the honor.
“Being recognized as a Top 50 Spirit by Wine Enthusiast Magazine is the culmination of an incredible year for Devotion Vodka, reinforcing that it is possible to compete with global brands,” Adelman said.
“Wine Enthusiast represents the gold standard, so this award truly validates that our gluten-free and sugar-free product is not only gaining acceptance, but it also tastes great,” he added.
Devotion Spirits, launched in November, 2009, made its name by offering the world’s first sugar-free and gluten-free American-made vodka family.
